Here you will find relevant updates and articles relating to the major resesarch project being conducted by the Animal Health Trust to investigate the auto immune disease known as Sebacious Adenitis [SA] and other important health information that is relevant to the Japanese Akita Inu.
The JAIC is working alongside the Animal Health Trust and the Kennel Club to fund a hugely important project called 'Give a Dog a Genome' This research is focusing on one health issue per breed. For the Japanese Akita Inu the research is focused on an Auto Immune condition known as Sebacious Adenitis [SA]. This devastating condition affects all Akita breeds and it is hoped that research will identify how this illness is inherited and ultimately develop a test that will help breeders to erradicate the condition in the future.
The Japanese Akita-Inu Club is not recommending or endorsing any of the sites it may provide a link to. The links are to enable visitors to find sites on health issues which are known, have research being completed on them or could affect the Japanese Akita-Inu.
Please send any general health items to the Club Health Co-ordinator Kate Huggins. Kate also has a specific email address for the Sebaceous Adenitis research project which will soon be available here:
